Choir has been an important part of OHS senior Cerina Partridge’s life since she was six years old. “Singing has always been a passion for me,” explains Partridge. “It’s a cool way to show your emotions or way to express yourself; it’s emotions in music form.” Her parents, Janelle and David Partridge, brother DJ and Cousin Sara Karlen have played significant roles in supporting this passion. Partridge and her mother sing duets together, her brother accompanies her on the piano and her father taught her how to play the guitar and write music.
Karlen directed Partridge in her first theatrical endeavor, "The Sound of Music" in which she played the role of a nun. “Being in a musical gives you a chance to play someone else’s life and put your own twist to it. Sara gave me a lot of one on one time and helped me with this. I think she really started me on musical theater,” states Partridge. Partridge has since performed in “Guys and Doll”, “Oklahoma” and she played Jan in OHS’s production of “Grease” her junior year of high school.
Besides musicals Partridge enjoys madrigal style music. She cites the time period of kings and queens and the romantic tone the music has as reasons for her interest.
Partridge has participated in the Solo Ensemble competition for four years and was chosen to participate in the Madison Youth choir and the Barrington Youth choir in Middleton. She currently works as a data processor for Intervarsity Campus Bible Study programs and plans on attending college next fall, majoring in music with a minor in theater.
