OHS senior Jake Behling, son of Wanda and Jim Behling, is a self professed leader and lover of music. “I like to have fun with music and command the crowd,” states Behling. As an example, Behling cited a recent situation where he took the initiative to conduct the base singers in choir, helping them with a difficult time piece, while OHS choir teacher Ms. Yancey worked with the soprano section.
Behling, who has played the saxophone in the OHS pep band for four years and marching band for three years, joined choir his junior year to help him with sight reading music and to give him a chance to make music during the day. Behling has also taken two semesters of music theory and two semesters of music composition. Behling uses his musical knowledge to build chords with other singers and make up new variations of old songs. “On a bus ride home from a choral concert in Stevens Point, I started building chords by assigning guys on the bus different pitches. Everyone thought it sounded so cool, and it was really fun,” Behling reports. “As long as people give me music, and there is music to play, I’m good with it.”
Behling recently played the part of Bill Sykes in the OHS production of "Oliver Twist". He currently works at Bill’s Food Center in the deli and is either planning on attending UW Platteville in the fall to major in music or psychology, or a move to Ireland. |
