Hi! My name is Jennifer Yancey, and I am the choral director at Oregon High School. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from UW-Madison and a Master of Music in Music Education with a Kodály emphasis from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
The choirs at OHS are taught using the Kodály philosophy of music education. The Kodály philosophy believes first and foremost that everyone can sing, and uses classical and folksong material to teach music literacy. Students learn to read music using solfege syllables (do re mi fa so la ti do), thus enhancing their ability to become independent musicians as they grow.
On a separate note, I would like to invite you to consider joining the Oregon Choral Boosters. This group of dedicated parents meets once per month for about an hour. Oregon Choral Boosters are strong advocates for vocal music in the Oregon School District and lend their support, both physically and financially, to provide opportunities for all students involved. Please consider joining this fantastic group!
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to know more about our program.
