My name is Ms. Heather Rattmann, and I am the director of the Oregon Middle School Choirs. I graduated from UW-Eau Claire in December, 2000, with a Bachelor of Choral and General Music Education K-12. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Music Instruction with an emphasis in Kodály (pronounced Co-Dye) Instruction at Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, WI. I love this program, because it gives me so many great tools to use in the classroom right away! If all goes as planned, I will complete my studies in the summer of 2009.
I follow the philosophy of the Kodály Method of teaching and learning about music. The main points of the Kodály Method include that music is for everyone, singing is the basis for music instruction, and folk songs are the “mother-tongue” of the country. I love working with my choral students and watching them grow as musicians as they enhance their love of choral music.
We do have a parent booster group called the “OREGON CHORAL BOOSTERS.” This group meets one Monday a month and is a low time commitment. All parents of choir students are officially members of this group. Please consider playing an active role in your child’s music education and attend our meetings!
Thank you,
Ms. Heather Rattmann
